Wenatchee will host its annual Purple Heart Recognition Event on Aug. 7 at the Wenatchee Convention Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with a separate event in Manson at noon at Tapped Out Sports Bar. This marks the third consecutive year the community has held the ceremony, which honors military members wounded or killed in combat.
Chelan County Community Services manager Amber Murillo-Vera said the event moved to the convention center this year due to increased attendance. The ceremony inducts local Purple Heart recipients into the Chelan County Hall of Honor, a perpetual plaque at the Chelan County Veterans Service Office. Manson, the region’s newest Purple Heart Community, will also recognize recipients at its event.
Since 2024, Chelan County, Douglas County, Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Chelan, Waterville, and Manson have become Purple Heart Communities. The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military decoration still awarded to service members.
