Chelan County Natural Resources has secured a $130,000 grant from the Washington Emergency Management Division to begin a comprehensive assessment of woody debris on Lake Chelan. The assessment, scheduled for completion by year-end 2026, will identify immediate and long-term solutions to debris issues exacerbated by a December 2025 storm and the 2024 Pioneer Fire.
The grant will fund the Lake Chelan Woody Debris Waterway Assessment, which aims to map debris locations, identify movement patterns, and assess impacts on recreation and private property. The Lake Chelan Collaborative (LCC), a multi-agency group including the U. S. Forest Service and local governments, will complete the assessment. A draft could be available for public comment as early as March 2027, with final results by June 2027. Implementation of recommendations will require future funding from multiple agencies.
