The U. S. Forest Service is using Lake Chelan Airport as a base for firefighting operations related to the Little Giant Fire, with the city receiving $300 per day for the use of the airport.
Chelan business owners requested increased Chamber of Commerce funding during a Tuesday city council meeting, citing declining tourism revenue. The city also announced a $50,000 funding pool for affordable housing projects within Chelan city limits, with applications open from September 1 to October 15.
The airport arrangement comes as the Little Giant Fire continues to impact the region, with the Forest Service utilizing local infrastructure for fire response efforts.
