On August 17, 2026, a Chelan County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling 80–100 mph on East Woodin Avenue. The driver failed to yield and continued southbound on SR-150 before entering U. S. Highway 97. The vehicle stopped in the middle of Beebe Bridge and was found unoccupied. The registered owner reported her husband likely drove the vehicle and expressed concern he entered the river from the bridge.
Deputies coordinated with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol to locate the man near Chelan Falls Park. He was taken into custody without incident and transported for medical evaluation. Indicators of possible alcohol impairment were observed, and a blood sample was collected for testing. Charges for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and Driving Under the Influence have been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.
