New evacuations have been issued for areas near the Little Giant Fire, which has grown to nearly 100,000 acres as of August 8, 2026. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources authorized state fire mobilization to assist with firefighting efforts.
The fire, which began on July 25, has forced evacuations in several communities and is threatening homes and infrastructure. The health district declared a wildfire smoke emergency for Chelan and Douglas counties on August 7, and the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services approved a public health emergency for Eastern Washington wildfires on the same day.
