Chelan County Public Works will begin stormwater drainage improvements on Arizona Boulevard in Malaga on Sept. 8, closing the intersection with Riviera Boulevard for five weeks. The project addresses longstanding standing water issues caused by a failing stormwater system, which has created travel hazards and property nuisances during rain events.
The $223,000 project, funded by county stormwater utility user fees, will replace the existing system with new catch basins, pipes, and a 15-inch outfall pipe into Lake Cortez. Pipkin Construction of Cashmere will handle the work, with detours available via West Malaga Road and Sierra Boulevard during construction.
