Wildfires in eastern Washington destroyed hundreds of buildings and forced evacuations in the Spokane area, according to a Wenatchee World report from August 3, 2026. The fires, named Little Giant and Kaiser Canyon, continued burning as evacuations expanded and air quality worsened.

The city of Chelan is finalizing a repair plan with contractors for the Chelan Library, which NCW Libraries described as "a promising path forward" for addressing structural damage. Meanwhile, a 47-year-old woman is missing from an East Wenatchee assisted living facility after she entered the Columbia River on Thursday morning, according to Wenatchee police.
