Wenatchee Fire, Hit-and-Run Collision Under Investigation

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

State fire assistance has been mobilized to support local firefighters containing the Ryegrass Coulee Fire in Kittitas County near Vantage, according to a Washington State Patrol announcement. The fire, which started July 8 at 4:51 p.m., is estimated at 600 acres and burning in grass, brush, and timber. Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations are in effect as the fire threatens homes, power infrastructure, and structures.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization on July 8 at 7:45 p.m. at the request of Fire Chief William Rose of Kittitas County Fire District 4. State Fire Marshal’s Office personnel are coordinating the dispatch of two wildland strike teams and air resources to aid containment efforts.

The WSP is also seeking witnesses for an injury hit-and-run collision that occurred June 25 at 1:56 a.m. on westbound State Route 96 near Dumas Road/Elgin Way SE. A pedestrian was struck by a silver/grey late 90s, early 2000s Chevrolet Tahoe style vehicle with an unknown license plate, which fled the scene. The vehicle is missing a passenger side marker light, and detectives are asking for dash camera footage or witness information.
